Trail Champion Award

The Trail Champion Award application period is now closed. The criteria and application are posted on the California Trails and Greenways Conference website.

The CTGF created this new award (Trail Champion) to recognize individuals (private citizens or elected officials) for their contributions to trails and greenways at a local level. The first recipient of the Trail Champion Award is Pete Mellinger from the City of Holtville, CA. For forty years Mr. Mellinger has advocated for the construction of the Alamo River Recreation Trail. Through his volunteer service as Planning Commissioner, Councilmember, and Mayor he continuously voiced and promoted the construction of the Trail and associated recreational facilities. Construction began in the fall of 2013 and continues into 2014. It is the first recreational trail in the Imperial Valley.
